To ensure efficiency in road safety and traffic management Karachi traffic police have introduced a new electronic challan (e-challan) system. With such a system, CCTV cameras will capture traffic offenses within the city and violators will automatically be fined.
This venture is meant to enhance discipline on the road, minimise accidents, and motivate people to adhere to laws of the road. Through this, the authorities will be hoping that Karachi can be taken on the path towards a more organized and safer traffic system.
The E-Challan System operates in the following way:
- Traffic violations will be monitored by the presence of CCTV cameras at various locations of the city.
- A violation will be documented in case a driver violates the law.
- One will automatically generate a challan which will be sent out to the violator via the postal service to his house.
- The official traffic police mobile app can also be used by citizens to view their challan details any time.
Driving licence system
The e-challan service has made the driving licence system as well as the traffic police. Citizens are now able to make and renew their licences through the internet, and this has made it easier to do so. Over 300,000 people have been beneficiaries of this online facility so far.
The police stress that one should not just obey the laws of the road to avoid a penalty, it is life-saving. Traffic lights and seatbelts are some of the ways to reduce road accidents as well as ensure the safety of all people.
Officials are encouraging every motorist in Karachi to abide by the traffic laws, drive prudently and contribute to the new system to ensure the Karachi roads are safer and better organized.
