A Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct in the ongoing PSL 11 has led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to fine Quetta Gladiators rising star Jahandad Khan. The all-rounder was fined 10 percent of his match fee, after being involved in an incident during the match against RawalPindiz at the National Bank Stadium on Friday night. Khan was guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which expressly forbids the use of language, conduct, or gestures which demean or incite a violent retaliation against a batter following a dismissal.
The Incident and Match Referee’s Decision
The scandalous incident was seen when the 18th over was delivered in the second innings of the second over. Jahandad Khan was able to fool batter Saad Masood by using a slower bouncer and this led to a catch and a decisive dismissal. Amid the party spirit Jahandad made a shushing motion by putting his finger on his lips, and at the same time his other hand was making the signal of inviting the batter to the dugout. On-field umpires Sharafuddoula and Imran Jawed reported it and a penalty was formally imposed by the match referee Roshan Mahanama. Jahandad had confessed to the crime and agreed to the sanction that would be imposed on him, so there was no need to hold a formal hearing.

Jahandad Khan Defends Action as Heat of the Moment
Although Jahandad Khan admitted the fine, in a post-match media conference, he explained that he had no personal enmity with it. He clarified that the reaction was an unintended consequence of the high-intensity game and he said that he has a close personal friendship with the batter, Saad Masood. Jahandad stressed that the gesture may have looked provocative on screen, but it had no ill intentions and was construed in the context of their friendship. Nevertheless, the PCB is very stringent with the PSL 11 Code of Conduct that provides that even without any personal relations between players, professional standards should be observed on the field.
