Pakistan has entered the peak monsoon season, and weather authorities have warned that several parts of the country could experience heavy rainfall, urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides during July. Northern and central regions, along with major cities in Punjab and Sindh, are expected to face the greatest risk as successive monsoon systems move across the country.

Cities at the Highest Flood Risk

    1. Islamabad

Heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas, while nearby streams could overflow during intense downpours.

    2. Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi remains one of Pakistan’s most flood-prone cities, especially around the Lai Nullah, where heavy rain can quickly lead to flooding.

    3. Lahore

The city faces a high risk of urban flooding due to heavy rainfall, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and areas with poor drainage.

    4. Gujranwala

Forecasts indicate periods of heavy rain that could result in waterlogging and localized flooding.

    5. Faisalabad

Low-lying roads and drainage systems may be affected if heavy rainfall continues for several hours.

    6. Peshawar

Flash floods are possible in surrounding districts, while urban areas could experience temporary flooding during intense storms.

    7. Karachi

Heavy monsoon showers may cause waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding in several parts of the city.

    8. Gilgit and Skardu

Mountainous regions face an increased risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods due to heavy rainfall and accelerated snowmelt.

    Conclusion

July is expected to bring active monsoon conditions across much of Pakistan. Cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and the northern mountain regions should remain alert for heavy rain, flooding, and travel disruptions. Staying informed and avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather can help reduce risks.
