It is Pakistan’s firm conviction and policy that it will continue to support the United Nations and effective multilateralism, confirmed the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on 26th July, 2026. This is a high-level endorsement, part of an official telephonic talk with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Much of the conversation focused on how to deal with some of the recent crisis points in the region, strengthen diplomacy and resolve structural leadership within the global organization.

Upholding Regional Stability and the Islamabad MoU

One of the key elements of the diplomatic visit was the attempt to secure greater peace and stability in the conflict areas in the region after the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The deal, which was signed to defuse escalating tensions, is an important instrument for peace in the region.

Grossi voiced his keen interest in maintaining a constant line of communication and diplomacy between all parties currently on the scene, as per the interim agreement, in the course of the call.

De-escalation: Both leaders emphasized that the only way to achieve a lasting peace in the region is by way of constructive engagement.

Sustained Dialogue: Grossi hoped the parties would continue the dialogue and engagement initiated by the Islamabad MoU with hopes of a peaceful outcome.

In addition to critical regional security issues, Director General Grossi used the communication to officially brief Deputy Prime Minister Dar about his official candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Dar reiterated that the empowerment of international legal systems and multilateral platforms is intrinsically linked to the support for the UN frameworks for Pakistan, in response. He noted that Pakistan has stayed engaged with the UN network to modernize operational structures head-on to address modern era economic, climate and security threats.

Pakistan’s Expanding Footprint in Global Governance

This reaffirmation, along with Pakistan’s active participation in all the major global governance forums, comes as a welcome development. Over the years, the State has established itself as an essential partner in the international community:

UN Peacekeeping Operations: Pakistan is a regular participant in the deployment of troops to parts of the world where there are conflicts, sending thousands of soldiers to various countries around the world.

Diplomatic Engagement: The country still uses its diplomatic means to fill the gap between the opposing powers in the world and to enhance transparency of its institutions.

They both ended their dialogue with an agreement on the importance of bilateral mechanisms and targeted institutional transparency for international order.
