The Sindh Government has officially introduced a new Sindh Job Portal (SJP) which is a totally digital platform that enables individuals to apply to government jobs online. This is what makes Sindh the first province in Pakistan to undertake such a transient and technology based hiring process.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, together with the Science and Information Technology department and Sukkur IBA University launched the portal. The primary aim is to ensure that recruitment is not discriminative, time-consuming, and accessible to all by using e-governance.
In the introduction, the Chief Minister indicated that the platform was in keeping with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who always sought to provide more job opportunities to the young people. He described that the new system of testing and hiring process is meant to be transparent and open and efficient at the same time.
Those seeking job opportunities have the ability to open an account through the portal and check it with a one-time password (OTP) and provide all their documents, including matriculation certificates, domicile, and CNIC copies. After a successful recruitment test, a candidate is eligible to apply to any of the job opportunities offered by the government using the portal.
CM Murad Ali Shah talked about the fact that more than 326,000 applicants have already passed the examination, and now the test is going to be conducted on a monthly basis. He also wrote that those who fail are allowed to take the test again several times with the original test being financed by the Sindh government.
The system is such that all job solutions such as advertisement and testing to appointment are done online. To advertise their job requirements, each department will have its job requirements posted on the portal. As an example, taking the case of the Education Department requiring 100 junior clerks, the Finance Department will instantly revise and sanction the funds and advertisement of the position will be posted the same day.
In the past, job announcements used to be done before approval of funding and this resulted in delays. Widely, this has been automated with the process of recruitment being quicker and more structured.
Sindh Job Portal is now accommodating all grades of jobs; BPS-5 to BPS-15 and beyond as a one-stop service to job seekers and government offices. It is also associated with the Screening Test Initiative of Sukkur IBA University, which deals with recruitment tests.
Due to automation, recruitment process time has declined as it took 12 months but now it only takes 1 month. The system spans all the processes, such as the advertisement of the job, and acceptance of the application, interviews, and proposal of offer, medical examination, police check and final appointment.
The Sindh Job Portal has some important characteristics that comprise:
AI-based job matching which suggests jobs according to skills and qualification.
- Voice-based job search in Urdu and English.
- Multilingual interface (English, Sindhi and Urdu).
- Online authentication of the Health Department and Sindh Police when it comes to medical and character records.
- Auto messages through SMS, email and in-portal notification.
- Elimination of redundancy of records by centralized records.
The Sindh Job Portal is another significant digital governance move that implies hiring on merit and removing any middlemen or human mistakes. It is a feasible step which brings the youth of Sindh closer to the employment opportunities in a lead example to other provinces.
