Online taxi service Careem has officially announced that it will be ending its ride-hailing services in Pakistan starting July 18, 2025.

The announcement was made by Careem’ co-founder and CEO Mudassir Sheikha in a heartfelt LinkedIn post.

“This was incredibly difficult,” he wrote. “But it’s no longer possible for us to deliver the kind of service people expect. We just can’t make it work under the current circumstances.”

    The End of an Era

-After nearly a decade, Careem is ending its ride-hailing services in Pakistan starting July 18, 2025.

-The company cites tough economic conditions, competition, and global investment challenges as key reasons.

Careem launched in Pakistan back in 2015 and quickly became one of the most popular ride apps. For many, it was more than just a taxi app — it became a daily convenience and a job provider for thousands of captains.

Mudassir called it “the end of an iconic chapter” and thanked everyone involved in the journey  from customers to drivers to the internal team.

But it’s not a complete goodbye. He added that Pakistan still means a lot to the company. After all, the very first lines of Careem’s code were written here.

“Pakistan is in Careem’s DNA,” he said. “We hope to bring our services back someday.”

While this marks the end of ride-hailing for now, Careem’s food delivery and other services may continue in some form  though that’s still unclear.
