Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has just officially released its lunar calendar 2026 with dates of all the moon sightings of each Islamic month being very specific.
This annual calendar that is prepared by the Climate Data Processing Center of the PMD is significant, as it assists the religious authorities and the citizens in the arrangement of the major events in the Islamic religion, including the Ramadan, Eid ul Fitr, and Eid ul Adha.
This prediction made by the PMD indicates that the Shaban crescent will be on January 21, 2026 and this will open the way to the preparations of Ramadan. The holy month of Ramadan is supposed to begin on February 19, having viewed the crescent on February 18. Consequently, the Eid ul Fitr is likely to be celebrated on March 20, 2026, the day on which the Shawwal moon is likely to be seen on March 19.
The Dhul Qadah moon is reported to be on April 18 following Ramadan whilst the moon which determines the days of Eid ul Adha the Dhul Hijjah moon is estimated on May 17. As it was calculated, it is likely that Eid ul Adha will be observed on May 27, 2026.
The lunar calendar also presents the prediction of the remaining Islamic months: The Islamic New Year begins with Muharram as it is expected to begin on June 16. Safar moon is predicted to occur on July 15th, Rabi ul awal on August 13 Rabi us sani on September 12, Jumada ul awal on October 12, Jumada us sani on November 10 and Rajab on December 10 in 2026.
The PMD underlined that these dates were computed by use of scientific lunar movements such as the birth of the Moon, sunset and anticipated visibility. Nonetheless, the official announcements of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee still will be needed to confirm the sightings of the moon in the actual days.
