The United States, Ukraine and Russian delegations have agreed in a historic deal in Abu Dhabi to trade314 prisoners of war, the first successful trade between the warring countries in almost five months.
The accomplishment through the painstaking trilateral talks in the capital of the UAE highlights the growing importance of Abu Dhabi as a safe and faithful location where foes can seek solace to talk over issues even when other diplomatic avenues are shut.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff characterized the negotiations as productive and detailed, but mentioned that despite the fact that there are still major differences, the consensus to release 157 personalities to both parties is a concrete humanitarian outcome of continued negotiations.

Ramos-Horta mentioned the discreet and effective mediation of the President and his ability to focus on humanitarian results, rather than political posture.
Ramos-Horta noted that he has been able to do numerous mediations between countries without trying to make headlines, and he has a history of doing that.
5,000 Captives Released: UAE’s Humanitarian Success
The most recent such mediation undertaking, which was an 18th successful attempt by the UAE to broker the release of captives, is the one which has seen almost 5,000 captives freed by Emirati channels since the start of the war.The UAE has developed a potential diplomatic win-win situation by at all times working on the status of being a partner to the peace process and not a part of the conflict itself.
