WhatsApp is currently developing an update that will transform the world by disintegrating the language barrier among WhatsApp users. As per the recent discoveries made by WABetaInfo on the WhatsApp beta version (26.11.10.70) on WhatsApp, the messaging giant is working on anauto-translate message feature of personal chats and groups.
As it is, to translate a message on WhatsApp, you need to press on the individual piece of text and then manually press long and select the translate option. Although it is useful, back to back translation of multiple messages is a tiresome exercise. The next upgrade is expected to facilitate cross-lingual communication to be completely smooth.
How the WhatsApp Automatic Translation Works
After the release of this feature, a user will have an additional toggle in the chat info screen. Here is what you can expect:
Language Settings: The users will have an option to set the language that the app should translate to and the language that it should translate.
Instant Display: When a message is received in the chosen chat, WhatsApp will show the translated message at once, that is, without having to tap on the text manually.
Original Text Access: You can always see the original text provided that you wish to see the original message, just open up the context menu and view or delete the translation.
Exciting news! WhatsApp is developing an auto-translate feature for iOS, enabling real-time message translations within chats. Say goodbye to language barriers! WhatsApp Uncompromised Privacy
One of the biggest concerns with real-time translation tools is data privacy. Fortunately, WhatsApp has designed this feature to ensure your conversations stay secure:
- End-to-End Encryption Maintained: The translation process relies entirely on Apple’s on-device API. Because the messages are processed locally on your iPhone, they are never sent to third-party servers. Your chats remain fully private and encrypted.
- No Internet Required: To use the automatic translation, you will need to download specific language packs. Once these packs are on your device, translations will happen instantly, even if you are offline.
WhatsApp Supported Languages and Group Limitations
This feature will be capable of supporting a number of languages up to 21. The number of available languages, however, can be determined by which version of iOS your device is running since older software might not have the language packs that you require offered by Apple.
Only when everyone is posting the messages using the same language that you are translating, automatic translations in groups will work properly. When a member of a particular group suddenly writes in a new language, the application will not translate that particular message. Moreover, WhatsApp does not intend to replicate this feature to Channels at the moment.
This option is in the process of development as part of the TestFlight beta program and it will likely be released to more people in a subsequent update.
What is the new WhatsApp automatic translation feature?
It is an upcoming feature that automatically translates incoming messages in chats and groups into your preferred language, removing the need to manually translate each text.
Is the automatic translation feature secure?
Yes. The feature uses Apple’s on-device API to process translations locally. This means your messages are not sent to any external servers, and end-to-end encryption is fully preserved.
Does this feature work without the internet?
Yes, once you download the necessary language packs to your device, the app can translate messages instantly without relying on an active internet connection.
Will it translate messages in WhatsApp Groups?
Yes, but with a limitation. It will only translate group messages if everyone in the group is typing in the same source language that you have selected for translation.
