Today, Pakistan celebrated its 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm, colorful lights, and huge crowds throughout the country. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICT) hosted an impressive public celebration at the Old Parade Ground, D-Chowk in the federal capital, Islamabad, under the auspices of Islamabad City Parade 2026. The mega event was conceived under the theme “A Celebration of Unity in Diversity” and was aimed to unite citizens for an epic evening of national pride, culture and family entertainment – completely free for the general public.

The evening opened with an energetic lineup showcasing the diverse heritage and disciplined forces of the country. Spectators witnessed a stunning array of institutional and traditional displays:
Law Enforcement Marches: Synchronized and impressive march-past routines presented by contingents of the Islamabad Police and Islamabad Traffic Police.
Traditional Musical Bands: Melodic and powerful performances by military and institutional pipe and percussion bands.
Folk and Cultural Troupes: Colorful regional presentations including the Jhang Dance Group, Khattak dance performances, traditional dhol players, and a unique cultural camel band presented by the Rangers.

When night came down on Constitution Avenue, the scene changed to a vibrant musical evening. The artists performed patriotic songs and popular ones, which gave new impetus to the patriotic feelings of the crowd:
Sahir Ali Bagga: Wowed the audience with his soaring interpretations and patriotic songs.
Nimra Mehra: Wowed the crowd with her soulful and resonating live performance.
Khumariyaan Band: Brought their signature instrumental and folk-fusion energy, merging traditional KPK sounds with modern rhythms.
Family Attractions and Grand Finale
To ensure a memorable experience for children and visitors of all ages, the administration integrated several interactive and visual treats into the program:
Mascots and Entertainment: Playful children’s characters and interactive Rafi Peer theater mascots roaming the venue.
Exhibitions: A fascinating showcase featuring a classic vintage cars fleet alongside a specialized vintage and military police bikes squad.
Capital Sky Fireworks: The historic celebration ended with a magnificent and exciting fireworks show lighting up the sky in Islamabad and entertaining the masses.
In addition to the D-Chowk function, other parts of the capital saw simultaneous functions, such as the D-Chowk’s famous Pakistan Air Force (PAF) flypasts and the family function at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park), which made it a truly historic Independence Day for the federal capital.
