By April 27, 2026, Lahore, the city that used to be known as the heartbeat of Lollywood, is regaining its title. In an unprecedented step that indicates a seismic change in the creative economy of Pakistan, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has formally inaugurated a colossal Punjab Film City spanning 50 acres. The project is much more than just a bunch of buildings, it is a high-tech, digital-first resurgence of the national film industry.
A lack of adequate infrastructure has been blocking the revival of Pakistani cinema over decades. Often, producers were compelled to leave their home countries to go to other countries to get basic post-production or use the old equipment. The Punjab Film City will serve to fill this colossal chasm. The project will introduce Pakistani storytelling to the 21st century and on-screen globally, through offering a centralized state-of-the-art hub.
Modern Infrastructure and Global Standards
On the folds of Lahore is this 50-acre center that is being modelled after the global production centres such as Dubai Studio City and Ramoji Film City in India. The infrastructure is also specifically geared towards accommodating all the pre-production to international premieres.
The features of the project are:
VFX & Animation Hubs: Special purpose sound stages with full capabilities to create high-quality visual effects, enabling local artists to create content, as good as Hollywood or Netflix.
Cinema Complexes: Contemporary cinemas that can hold mega preview and film festivals.
The Punjab Film Academy: A state of the art educational wing, meant to provide a director, cinematographer and other technical artists of the future.
As it is stated by the Government of Punjab, international consultants have been contracted, so that the facility is up to the technical needs of the international streaming giants.
Big announcement: Punjab to establish a 50 acre , first of its kind #PunjabFilmCity in Lahore bringing the glory of filmmaking back to Lahore and Punjab.

Economic Impact: New Horizons for Media Professionals
The Punjab Film City is set to be your principal source of occupation provided that you are one of those in the media, digital marketing or creative arts. On top of the normal acting and directing positions, the facility will employ thousands of people in:
Storyboard Artists and Scriptwriters.
Video and Sound Editors.
Online Development & Media Agents focused on content optimization on the streaming platforms.
The project is a gigantic success among young creators who are interested in YouTube, Netflix, and other OTT platforms. The Information and Culture department Punjab has also indicated subsidized fees and scholarships to young people in the film industry to see that the high costs do not dampen local talent.
Cultural Revival and Global Collaboration
The cultural richness of Pakistan Sufi poems, folk songs and historical epics has not been well exploited by the cinema. This cinema city offers the best opportunity to make the philosophies of poets such as Rumi and Maulana Ghulam Fareed come alive as a visual masterpiece to a world audience.
The government is also implementing a single window clearance and tax incentives to international production houses that want to shoot in Pakistan so that it can attract foreign investment. The project will help improve tourism and earn the country the much-needed foreign exchange by making Lahore a filming destination that is cheap and of high quality.
