City Traffic Police Lahore has finalized a proper operational management plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic to protect its citizens from the severe situation of gridlocks that is expected to be seen before Eid ul Adha. The Lahore Traffic Plan Cattle Markets has been fully operational at all six markets of animal trade in Lahore, Lahore Traffic Plan (LTP), Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi announced in this regard. Over 200 traffic wardens have been put in place to facilitate traffic flow and aid visiting buyers/traders.
A specialized plan that will ensure easy access for cattle traders while ensuring the safety of enforcers on major arterial streets, particularly the dangerous situation where slow moving loaders cross fast lane highways such as Canal Road.
Special Traffic Deployments and anti-Encroachment Drives at Cattle Markets
Both the zonal officers from City and Sadar division have been sent to directly oversee logistical and parking facilities at all sales points. The deployment structure consists of:
High Level Supervision: A special team of 6 DSPs and 18 sector in-charges are working actively in the field.
Warden Deployment: More than 200 traffic wardens are deployed at market entrances and exits to ensure loading trucks and market visitors flow through the markets.
Forklift Operations: Six powerful forklifts are on standby to speedily lift and move illegally parked vehicles and clear commercial encroachments from main pathways.
Complete Ban on Loader and Qingqi Rickshaws on Canal Road
The City Traffic Police has implemented a strict, no-tolerance policy on using loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws on the Canal Road in a key step towards enhancing road safety.
The CTO said that the rickshaws filled with heavy construction materials such as iron rods, steel pipes and bricks, which were carried on the canal road in an untightened and unsecure manner, pose a serious threat for the people in the lanes of fast-moving commuter traffic. Extra police pickets and patrolling have been deployed at sensitive choke points such as Dharampura, Mughalpura and Thokar Niaz Baig to strictly enforce this restriction. Immediate heavy fines and vehicle impoundments will be given for the violation.
Crackdown on Overloaded Passenger Auto-Rickshaws
The traffic police chief has also directed an immediate crackdown of auto-rickshaw owners who are compromising safety for extra money. The driver will be dealt with severely if he or she lets a passenger sit on the front seat along with him. This risky habit obscures the driver’s side view mirrors, hinders steering ability, and can result in serious injury in case of an emergency.
CCPO Lahore Assures Foolproof Security for Traders and Buyers
Following the traffic routing policy, the overall security measures at the sales venues have been tightened to a great extent by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana.
Inside the cattle markets, patrolling police teams and plainclothes personnel have been put in place to curb pickpockets, fake currency hawkers and robbers, due to the unprecedented amount of cash being transferred to the markets. This all-encompassing safety net provides a secure space for buyers and traders to do business.
Citizens can use the official Web Portal of Punjab Police or contact 15 helplines for real time traffic updates, alternate routes or emergency support. Commuters should avoid causing any safety concerns if they are to be caught by field wardens, to ensure a safe and easy festive period for everyone.
