Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has introduced a modern AI-based tracking platform to usher Pakistan into a new digital governance era. This innovative system is called the Prime Minister’s Office System, or PMOS, and aims to replace the outdated, cumbersome and slow paper-based administrative processes of the State. . By leveraging advanced technology, the system establishes a highly transparent framework that records, assigns, and tracks every single directive issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) from the moment of inception to its final execution.

The Birth of PMOS: Digital Transformation at the Highest Level

The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, inaugurated the digital platform at a high level launch ceremony held at the PMO in Islamabad. The ceremony was attended by the high-ranking federal officials, such as minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and minister for economic affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.

Unlike conventional database software that merely archives uploaded data, the PMOS integrates a specialized Artificial Intelligence (AI) layer. This intelligent infrastructure is capable of:

Reading and comprehending the context of complex official directives.

Automatically classifying tasks based on relevant government sectors.

Analyzing systemic data to predict and prevent bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Providing real-time milestone alerts directly to the Prime Minister’s executive dashboard.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, today, launched the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Prime Minister Office System (PMOS), describing it as a transformative digital platform that will modernise governance by recording, communicating, monitoring and tracking every directive issued… pic.twitter.com/Ik3Zr1LrXE
— Prime Minister's Office (@PakPMO) July 21, 2026

Cracking Down on Red-Tape: The End of Physical Files

The Prime Minister issued strict mandates to all federal ministries and institutional divisions to integrate immediately into the new infrastructure. Addressing the government functionaries and bureaucrats, PM Shehbaz Sharif delivered a strong, uncompromising message:

“From today onwards, I will not expect any of you with a file in your hands. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism.”

The federal government has initiated a strict timeline for all state departments to migrate entirely onto the e-Office ecosystem and the unified AI tracking platform. Ministries have been explicitly warned that any unnecessary delays in moving past traditional paper-shuffling will face severe bureaucratic accountability.

    PMOS Core Features and Capabilities

According to the official technical brief presented by the Ministry of Information Technology, the PMOS serves as a permanent, secure database and decision-support tool. The system covers the entire life-cycle of federal operations through several core pillars:

    1. End-to-End Directive Monitoring

The software manages the entire journey of an official order. It covers the initial generation, formal digital dispatch to specific federal ministries, active task tracking, verified physical completion, and long-term post-implementation reviews.

    2. Strategic Resource Optimization

By embedding advanced analytics, PMOS allows the state apparatus to visually map out exactly how human, technical, and financial resources are deployed. This visibility assists the government in making rapid adjustments to maximize economic and developmental outputs.

    3. High-Security IT Environment

To safeguard highly sensitive state secrets and prevent foreign interference, the platform operates entirely within a heavily fortified, protected IT network. It features multi-layered data encryption and stringent access control protocols.

    4. Institutional Repository

The platform acts as an unalterable, centralized digital vault storing years of executive decisions. This creates a permanent institutional memory bank that prevents file loss and helps future administrations review past policy trajectories.

Paving the Way for Smart Governance in Pakistan

The launch of the system is a foundational piece of Pakistan’s broader, long-term digital governance strategy. By piloting and perfecting this advanced system within the Prime Minister’s Office first, the federal government intends to successfully test structural governance reforms at the absolute peak of the executive branch before systematically cascading the software down into provincial departments and local secretariats.

The effective implementation of this AI platform underscores the swift technological advancement of the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the Ministry of IT. Pakistan is taking a new step towards creating a transparent, agile and highly accountable government that can respond to the challenge of the modern economy by focusing on technology rather than red-tape.
