Punjab Schools to Hold Milad Programmes on August 25 as Eid Milad-un-Nabi Guidelines Take Effect

Every year, the twelfth of Rabi-ul-Awwal brings a wave of devotion across Pakistan, and this year Punjab is making sure schools play a central role. On August 25, corresponding to 11 Rabi-ul-Awwal, public and private schools across Punjab were directed to hold Milad programmes as part of the province’s official Eid Milad-un-Nabi arrangements.

What the Punjab Home Department has announced

The Punjab Home Department issued fresh instructions asking all institutions, government and private alike, to mark the occasion with dignity and order. The directive covers far more than schools alone. Sabeels, or free water and refreshment stalls, will line the routes of major religious processions. Government buildings, banks, and private offices will be lit up with green lights, a familiar sight during this season in cities like Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad.

Why the school Milad programmes matter

Asking schools to host Milad gatherings is not just symbolic. It brings young students into direct contact with the teachings and character of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) through Naat recitals, short speeches, and classroom discussions. For families juggling packed school calendars, this gives children a structured, safe way to take part in the Eid Milad-un-Nabi spirit without needing to attend large public gatherings.

Other steps announced alongside the school directive

    • A Seerat-un-Nabi symposium will be held to discuss the Prophet’s life and message.
    • Sweets will be distributed among prisoners in Punjab’s jails.
    • Deputy commissioners and district police officers have received formal letters to ensure compliance.
    • Security instructions have been reinforced for all processions and public events.

What parents and school staff should keep in mind

    • Confirm timing of the Milad programme directly with your child’s school, since exact schedules may vary by district.
    • Expect road closures or diversions near main procession routes, especially in Lahore and other major cities.
    • Keep an eye on local traffic police updates if you are commuting on August 25.
    • Encourage children to dress modestly and participate respectfully in classroom Milad activities.

    A note on local context

For families in smaller towns without strong internet access, schools remain one of the most reliable ways to receive updates on such directives, since official notices often reach parents through printed circulars rather than apps or SMS alerts. This makes the school-based approach especially practical for a Punjab-wide rollout.

    Conclusion

The Punjab government’s decision to bring schools into the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations reflects a simple goal: making sure the next generation understands the significance of this day, not just through holidays, but through shared learning and remembrance. Parents and students alike can look forward to a meaningful, well-organised day on August 25.
