PM Shehbaz Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Energy Facilities: Pakistan Stands With Riyadh

You don’t stay quiet when a close friend is attacked and this week PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi energy facilities, says it is a dangerous act that risks innocent lives and regional peace

What Really Happened in Saudi Arabia

Yemen’s Houthi fighters launched a barrage of missiles and drones Tuesday at oil facilities, power plants and other targets in southern Saudi cities, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. At some places fires were started, at some places work stopped and over 70 persons, including women and children, were hurt. That’s a huge jump from the relative calm of the past few years, and it came after weeks of mounting tensions between Saudi forces and the Houthis finally boiled over.

    How PM Shehbaz Reacted

PM Shehbaz said the attacks were dastardly and warned they were a threat to innocent lives and the broader stability of the region. He expressed support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called for prayers for the victims of the strikes. All this shouldn’t come as a surprise if you look at the history between the two countries. For decades, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have depended on each other, whether through military ties, worker remittances or shared faith. The timing adds weight to the message, coming just weeks after Pakistan signed a new defense pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

    Why Should Average Pakistanis Care

This is not a tale of diplomats making statements. It affects real people back home too.

•Millions of Pakistani workers are living in Saudi Arabia and their safety depends on the stability there.

•Money sent back by these workers is a major source of Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings.

•The increasing defense partnership means Pakistan has more than sentiment at stake in the outcome.

•If Saudi oil production is impacted, fuel prices around the world could rise, and that always ends up at the local petrol pump here.

A Few Things To Watch Out For

•Keep an eye on local fuel prices—any trouble in the Gulf tends to quickly see petrol and diesel prices jump.

•If you or family members are working in Saudi Arabia, monitor any advisory issued by the Pakistani embassy.

•Please be aware of remittance transfers, as sometimes banking channels can be delayed by regional unrest.

    Conclusion

After all, this was not an ordinary routine statement from Islamabad. It is a reminder that Pakistan is ready to stand by Saudi Arabia in times of tension and a sign of how closely linked our economy and the lives of workers abroad are to events in the Gulf. Being informed, not anxious, is the smarter way to navigate whatever comes next.
