The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned down a joint offer by franchise owners to bring down the salaries of the local players for the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 12. In a strategic virtual meeting team owners voiced their concern over increasing operational costs and wanted a full review of the payroll process. But the governing body strongly resisted the budget cuts that focused on the wellbeing of players and league premium standards.
Beyond the key payroll verdict the PCB issued an absolute deadline of October 31 for all defaulting franchises and stakeholders to clear outstanding financial dues. In response an official from a defaulting firm promised compliance offering a secure land-backed bank guarantee.
The high-stakes tournament roadmap was also mapped out during the session. The player retention deadline is set for January 13, despite suggestions to move it to December. The highly anticipated PSL 12 player auction is scheduled for January 23, with interesting proposals raised to host the event in China.
According to the official scheduling framework PSL 12 will kick off on March 18 culminating in a grand final at Lahore’s historic Gaddafi Stadium on May 2. Due to the concurrent South Asian Games happening in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar from April 4 to April 11, the league will temporarily suspend matches in those specific host cities. Additionally, the PCB briefed franchises on rising school cricket talent urging teams to scout and develop grassroots prospects into future national sports heroes.
