PTA Register BIGO LIVE and Likee structural framework is formally confirmed, as a critical evolutionary advancement of digital oversight of regulatory frameworks in the country. On Wednesday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officially registered live-streaming app BIGO LIVE and short-video app Likee. All of these digital outlets are legally registered under the name Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., the registered local corporate subsidiary, which oversees the applications.
Enforcing the Online Content Rules 2021
It was on-boarded under the strict guidelines of the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021 by the regulatory authority. The frameworks, imposed by the states, stipulate that major social media platforms that belong to the domestic digital world have to register formally with the telecoms regulator.
The successful live streaming app registration brings in a number of vital structural benefits:
Improved moderation: Direct, synchronised connection between regulator and platform for efficient content moderation.
Responsible Digital Media: Proactively supporting safe user environments and civilized streaming etiquette, respecting cultural boundaries.
Legal Alignment: Making sure that all the software algorithms used in operation are in compliance with local content moderation laws.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally registered BIGO LIVE and Likee platforms in Pakistan under Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., in accordance with the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021. PTA look forward to strengthening its collaboration with BIGO to enhance content moderation mechanisms, promote responsible platform use, and ensure continued compliance with Pakistan’s applicable laws. #PTA #BIGO #BigoLIVE #Likee #DigitalPakistan #ResponsibleDigitalUse #OnlineSafety #ContentModeration #DigitalResponsibility #SocialMediaSafety #DigitalTrust #CyberSafety #Pakistan #RegulatoryCompliance #SafeDigitalSpace

This is not the first time that the corporate body has called for state alignment. Bigo Service Pakistan was one of the pioneer companies to register the certificates in January 2022 along with Snack Video. The new alignment creates an official way to receive complaints from consumers and aligns them with other tech giants such as TikTok, which recently culled more than 23 million non-compliant videos in the region. The PTA hopes that the integration will allow it to slowly curb the proliferation of illegal content, while also increasing safe business opportunities for digital content creators.
