Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar has praised the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) for stopping the broadcast of Indian songs on FM radio stations across Pakistan.

This decision came shortly after India blamed Pakistan for a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam. Pakistan has strongly denied any role in the attack.

Since then tensions between the two countries have increased. Pakistan has strengthened its military presence while India has given its army more freedom to take action. On Wednesday morning, Pakistan warned that it expected an Indian attack within the next 24 to 36 hours. In response other countries have started diplomatic efforts to avoid a military clash.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a letter on Thursday appreciating the PBA move. The letter called the decision patriotic and a reflection of the whole nation feelings. It said this action shows unity and national spirit during a difficult time.

Minister Attaullah Tarar said he highly values this step by the PBA. He added that it defends the dignity and sovereignty of Pakistan and shows that the media stands with the nation.

The ministry also thanked all media groups for acting in the country’s best interest and supporting the government efforts to promote unity, peace and patriotism.

The ban on Indian songs came just one day after India blocked the social media accounts of several Pakistani entertainment channels and popular stars including Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir and Ali Zafar.
