PM Fuel Relief Scheme 2026: Islamabad Petrol Subsidy Starts September 15, Nationwide Rollout From September 17

Petrol prices have squeezed household budgets across Pakistan for months, and the government has finally rolled out direct relief. The PM Fuel Relief Scheme went live in Islamabad from the night of September 14 into 15, and the rest of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, joins from the night of September 16 into 17. This piece explains who qualifies, how to register, and what to expect on the ground.

What The Fuel Relief Scheme Actually Offers

Under this petrol subsidy scheme, eligible users get Rs100 off every litre of petrol. Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi owners can claim relief on up to 20 litres a month, while owners of cars up to 800cc get it on up to 30 litres monthly. Only non-commercial, personal-use vehicles qualify, and one vehicle is allowed per applicant. The Economic Coordination Committee has approved Rs75 billion for this initiative, with petroleum officials estimating around Rs25 billion in monthly disbursement.

How Islamabad’s Rollout Differs From The Rest Of Pakistan

Islamabad was chosen as the pilot city, launching a full two days ahead of the nationwide fuel relief rollout. This gave authorities time to test the digital registration system before scaling it across the country. Within a day, more than 600,000 SMS messages were sent from Islamabad alone, with over 42,000 successful registrations. The Chief Commissioner and Islamabad Police were told to keep staff in the field, guiding citizens who struggle with the mobile-first process, an important step since many low-income users have limited digital literacy.

    Registration Checklist For Pakistani Applicants

    • Send an SMS to 9771 (the service is free of cost, per the Prime Minister’s directive)
    • Include your CNIC number
    • Include your vehicle’s number plate
    • Add the first letter of your province
    • Add your vehicle’s registration date
    • Wait for confirmation before visiting any pump

Why This Matters For Ordinary Families

For daily-wage earners, students and small traders who rely on bikes and rickshaws, Rs100 per litre is meaningful savings every month. The registration process uses NADRA and telecom data along with four anti-fraud checks, so genuine applicants should face minimal hassle if their CNIC and vehicle details match official records.

    Conclusion

If you own a motorcycle, rickshaw or small car under 800cc, register early through SMS rather than waiting in long queues once nationwide relief begins on September 17. Registering today means fuel savings tomorrow, don’t miss your share of this relief.
