The Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) have released the schedule for the province-wide Large Scale Assessment (LSA-2026) for Grade 4 students. The official notification of 6 May 2026 states that this assessment is to analyze student learning outcomes (SLOs) in various areas of education. This is a key initiative of Punjab’s strategy to measure and improve primary education based on data-informed insights.
What is the Large-Scale Assessment (LSA-2026)?
The LSA-2026 is not an annual grade and pass/fail examination. Rather, it is an assessment based on samples of schools to measure the academic health of the province. The assessment is for schools running under:
- School Education Department (SED)
- Punjab Education Foundation (PEF)
- Punjab Education Management Authority (PIMA)
- Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education (L&NFBE)
- Special Education Department
- District Public Schools (DPS) and registered private institutions.
Grade 4 Assessment Datesheet (May 2026)
The assessment will start on 11th May 2026. Each paper has been set for 3½ hours so that the student will have enough time to show his/her skill.

The Purpose of Sample-Based Testing
PECTAA’s goal is to highlight the implementation of current curriculum and teaching strategies and to define gaps in this area by examining a diverse sample of schools. The assessment on May 14 is especially special, as it is not based on written tests but on fluency, dictation and speaking skills with a view to help the students to learn practical communication skills in both Urdu and English.
Heads of selected schools have been reminded by the educational authorities to ensure that there is 100% attendance of grade 4 children on the scheduled day(s) to make sure the assessment will be accurate.
