Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and a high-level Syrian delegation visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to meet Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal (FM) Syed Asim Munir as a step towards enhancing geopolitical cooperation and military diplomacy.
The strategic session was dominated by discussions on the changing security landscape in the South Asian and Middle East region and ways to further bolster bilateral defence, intelligence and security cooperation.
Strategic Assessments and Regional Security Realities
The cross-regional dialogue enabled both leaderships to fully consider today’s security threats, counter-terrorism operations and strategic challenges faced by both. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir underlined Pakistan’s historic and fraternal relations with Syria which is essential for them to maintain permanent harmony through mutual defence cooperation.
The Chief of Defense Forces shared Pakistan’s comprehensive perspective on maintaining global peace and regional stability. He underscored that in an era of complex hybrid warfare, non-state security threats, and asymmetric challenges, close cooperation and collaborative institutional efforts are absolutely essential to safeguard sovereign borders. Pakistan’s military leadership expressed readiness to extend technical training and capacity-building frameworks to Syrian security institutions based on its extensive counter-insurgency experience.

Commending Pakistan’s Professional Contribution to Global Peace
The visiting Syrian dignitary highly appreciated the stellar professional role, sacrifices, and operational competence demonstrated by the Armed Forces of Pakistan in aggressively promoting regional peace and countering extremist networks. Al-Shaibani noted that Pakistan’s defense infrastructure remains a benchmark for professional excellence and serves as a stabilizing force in the wider region.
Concluding the session, both sides formally reiterated their shared resolve to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand tactical engagements across different dimensions of defense production, technical expertise exchange, and joint security planning .
