Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke once again with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres to discuss the worsening situation in South Asia after the recent Pahalgam attack.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister Office, this was the second call between the two leaders in just a week.
During the conversation, PM Shehbaz appreciated the UN chief ongoing efforts to ease tensions in the region and welcomed his call for calm and avoiding conflict.
The prime minister repeated Pakistan offer to hold an independent, neutral and transparent investigation into the incident. He expressed concern that India still has not shared any evidence but continues to make aggressive statements and stir up war like sentiments.
PM Shehbaz made it clear that Pakistan will fully defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also raised serious concerns about Indian alleged attempts to harm Pakistan economy by politicizing international financial institutions.
Antonio Guterres in return updated PM Shehbaz on his diplomatic outreach to reduce tensions.He said he will continue engaging with all sides to support peace in the region.
“War solves nothing,” Guterres said. “It only makes things worse and blocks the path to peace.”
He urged both nations to focus on diplomacy and take practical steps to restore calm and stability in South Asia.
