Public and private schools across Punjab have been given a detailed policy framework to conduct summer learning sessions by the Punjab School Education Department (SED). In the wake of rising seasonal temperatures and heat wave warnings, the provincial government has structured these Punjab School Summer Camps in order to mitigate learning loss, and simultaneously ensure the health and safety of students. This article provides all the critical information that every parent and school administrator needs to know, such as required early morning routines, no-fee policies, and the focused 12-district literacy initiative.
Official Schedule and Timings for Punjab School Summer Camps
The government has introduced very rigid operating times for early morning to ensure complete protection for children from extreme temperatures in the morning. The summer camps are designed into two separate formats, depending on the educational program:
General Province-Wide Summer Camps: These are regular summer camps running from June 1 to June 30, 2026 from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. These sessions are completely off for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, giving students good rest time, with all sessions occurring between Monday and Thursday.
Specialized TALEEM Learning Camps: These intensive camps will be held from June 2 to August 7, 2026 as part of a targeted learning initiative. The daily timings are limited to 7.00 AM to 9.30 AM, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday).
The most up-to-date information or policy differences can be checked by the school administrators and parents themselves on the Punjab School Education Department Notifications Portal.
List of 12 Districts Targeted Under the TALEEM Initiative
The Punjab government has identified 12 ‘special’ districts for the basic academic reinforcement under the “Transformation in Access, Learning, Equity, and Education Management” (TALEEM) project. To strongly enhance the foundational literacy and numeracy skills, a total of 6,060 specialized camps will be set up in 3,030 selected public schools in these areas:
- Bahawalnagar
- Bahawalpur
- Bhakkar
- Chiniot
- Dera Ghazi Khan (D.G. Khan)
- Layyah
- Lodhran
- Mianwali
- Muzaffargarh
- Pakpattan
- Rahim Yar Khan
- Rajanpur
Teachers serving in these specialized 8-week camps will be given a PKR 40,000 specialized honorarium in a month. More information about this educational reform may be found on the Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU-PESRP) Portal from an administrative and performance tracking perspective.
Extra Fee Rules and Safety Guidelines for Parents
The Punjab School Education Department has emphasised that summer camps should not be an expense for the family. A rigorous set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) has been established to protect the rights of parents and the best interests of students:
No-Fee Mandate for Private Schools: Private schools shall not impose any additional, hidden or supplemental tuition for summer camp attendance alone.
100% Free Public Education: In government schools, these learning camps are free of cost. No teacher or administrator may raise money or donations for these classes.
Free Choice: Summer camp is completely voluntary participation. Students are not required to attend school or penalized for not attending. Institutions are required to have explicit written parent consent for the child’s enrollment.
Strictly Indoor Activities: All lessons, games and activities will be held in classrooms to prevent the risk of heatstroke. Exposure to open sunlight, sports or assemblies in the outdoors are prohibited. Schools are also requested to provide uninterrupted clean drinking water and back-up power provision (UPS systems, generators, etc.).
Dress Code Relaxations: Regular, school uniform dress is not required. It is the parents’ strong request that children wear loose, light-colored, breathable, cotton clothes and sun-protective caps.
If your local private school is breaking one of these orders, or is charging illegal summer camp fees, you can make a formal complaint to your local District Education Authority (DEA).
