From Parliament to Uber: Qasim Khan Suri’s Story of Resilience

In an eye-opener and a stark testament of how political instability is in Pakistan, Qasim Khan Suri, the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, has come out to reveal that he now drives with Uber in the United States to earn a living.

The senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, once a presiding figure in the parliament of Pakistan is now on the streets of America to earn a living to support his family and according to him, this is unimaginable but a transition that had to be made.

Qasim Suri has recently confided in one interview concerning his present financial struggles. He had also acknowledged that he had never dreamed of a day when he would be using a ride-hailing service to earn his living.

The present circumstances are quite challenging to me. I have never thought that I would be forced to use a service such as Uber to earn my living.

Although his luck has changed radically, Suri underlined that he has made the right decision and that he has gone down the road of hard work and honesty instead of going down the illegal way.

From Hosting Presidents to Driving Strangers

Suri looked back at his days of clout during and before his tenure in office. As he remembered, his place of residence in Quetta was a place that was home to the best leadership in the country. Among the prominent personalities were Imran Khan and President Dr. Arif Alvi who constantly visited his home.

A shift between accommodating the heads of state and being a taxi driver in a foreign country is very dramatic, but Suri does not lose his honor. He again repeated that he is from a middle-class background and he had always been a believer in honor more than money.

Qasim Suri is a person who is loyal to politics, although he is facing issues with his personal and financial life. He stated that he remained solidly on the side of Imran Khan and his ideology as well as the PTI.

He said that he is not merely fighting to survive but a bigger battle to:

• Justice in Pakistan.
• The supremacy of the Constitution.
• The rights of the people.

Suri affirmed that no matter how tough his circumstances become, he will “never compromise on honesty” or his principles.
