Italy has declared a big job opportunity in the employment of Pakistani workers, setting a quota of 10,500 jobs to be occupied by Pakistani citizens. This development is a great move towards increasing the access of Pakistanis to the European labor markets and it is an indicator of the increased collaboration between Pakistan and Italy in foreign employment.
The breakthrough, according to a report by 24NewsHD is a result of years of diplomatic and administrative work by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistani. The ministry spokesperson said that the job quota was allowed by the Italian government after an appeal was made by Federal Minister of Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhary Salik Hussain.
Job Quota Breakdown
Many job opportunities have been generated under the Italy Jobs for Pakistanis initiative. According to the official information, 3500 Pakistani workers are to move to Italy using regular employment visas. Also, 1,500 employees will be covered on the seasonal labor quota of Pakistan, and 2,000 others on non-seasonal employment in Italy. The remaining vacancies will be used by sector-specific arrangements which are agreed between the two countries.
Sectors and Taken Positions
The employment opportunities are spread over numerous industries, and both skilled and semi-skilled employees have a choice. Some of the sectors covered by the Italy Jobs for Pakistanis program are:
- Shipbreaking
- Hospitality and tourism
- Healthcare services
- Agriculture and farming
There are job opportunities in the sphere of welders, technicians, cooks, waiters, housekeepers, nurses, medical technicians and agricultural workers, and provides employment opportunities on various professional levels.
Government Response and Future Intention
Chaudhary Salik Hussain appreciated the news and congratulated the country on achieving the job quota. He termed the project as a significant step towards creating openings to Pakistani workers in Europe. The minister also added that a joint working group meeting between Pakistan and Italy would be held in Islamabad in the year 2026 in order to enhance further labor cooperation.
The minister once again reminded that the overseas Pakistanis are a key pillar of the national economy, which plays a very important role due to remittances and as a Pakistani voice at the transit. He was optimistic that other European countries might soon follow the lead of Italy to provide similar job quotas to Pakistani workers.
