The federal government is also currently debating whether the Rs 10 note must be abolished in Pakistan. To this end, the federal cabinet has established a special committee with the finance minister in the position of the chair.
The committee will research on the matter and will recommend whether the Rs 10 banknote should remain in circulation or whether they should be scrapped.
As noted, the cabinet has instructed the committee to take a closer look into the cost of production of the Rs 10 note. It is costly to print notes, and the government is interested in determining whether the note is not making sense to retain.
The committee will also contrast the possibility of issuing a coin in denomination Rs 10 as more useful and long lasting than the paper note.
Rs 10 Coin Also Under Consideration
Along with the proposal of whether the Rs 10 note should be discontinued, officials will examine the benefits of replacing it with a coin. Coins usually last longer than banknotes and can reduce long-term costs.
This comparison will help the government decide what option is better for the economy and daily public use.
Final Rs 10 Note Decision Awaited From Cabinet
At the end of the review by the committee it will present a report to the federal cabinet. It will then be up to the cabinet to decide finally on whether or not to discontinue the plan of the Rs 10 note based on the recommendations.
The Rs 10 note will still be used until then, and no change has been announced at the time.
