The Pakistan TV (PTV) created history in Karachi when they removed the lowest total defended in first-class cricket by the PTV against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).They just managed to defend a target of 40 runs but still, they won the match by two runs.
This was a record that had existed in first-class cricket for 232 years.
232-Year-Old Record Finally Broken
Before this match, the smallest target ever defended was 41 runs, set back in 1794 when Oldfield beat MCC at Lord’s Old Ground. No team had ever managed to defend anything lower.
Now, the PTV lowest total defended replaces that ancient mark after SNGPL were bowled out for 37 while chasing 40.
Ali Usman Leads Stunning Bowling Effort
Such a humble aggregate seemed to consist of impossibilities to defend, but PTV bowlers had their way. Ali Usman, a left-arm spinner was an exceptional player since he had taken 6 wickets and only 9 runs. This was assisted by a quick bowler Amad Butt who grabbed the other four wickets.
SNGPL, who had test skipper Shan Masood as its captain, could not muster the pressure on a challenging Karachi pitch.
Match Situation Before the Miracle
The match started normally. PTV were dismissed for 166 in the first innings. SNGPL replied with 238, taking a 72-run lead.
With Karachi pitches breaking up quickly, PTV were then bowled out for 111, leaving SNGPL needing only 40 runs to win. Most expected a quick finish, but instead the PTV lowest total defended story was written.
