KP Women to Get Free Electric Bikes: What the New EV Scheme Means for Peshawar’s Students and Working Women

For years, women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have struggled to find safe and affordable ways to get around, especially those who commute to college or work every day. That might finally begin to change. The provincial government has launched a new scheme for electric bikes with a special focus on women and has already created a stir in Peshawar, Mardan and elsewhere.

What the KP Government Actually Said

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi made the announcement during the 57th provincial cabinet meeting. The idea is simple: distribute electric bikes to women who qualify on a merit basis. College students, university students and employed women are in the running. So far, no mention has been made of any sort of lottery system, suggesting the province wants this tied to real need and performance, not luck.

Why It Matters to Women Everywhere

Transport is not only inconvenient; it is a barrier to education and jobs for many women outside big cities. In smaller towns of KP, public transport is rare, ride-hailing services are not always available and the cost of a petrol bike is often beyond one’s financial reach. Cutting out the cost of fuel altogether provides women with a safer, more independent way to get to school or work.

What We Don’t Know So Far

That’s good news. But the announcement is short on details. There’s no confirmed number of bikes being distributed, no application process, no launch date, and no word on whether registration will be done online or in person at district offices.

What’s next in KP’s green transport push?

This is not a stand-alone move. The Chief Minister has also spoken about the coming up of an electric rickshaw scheme and asked officials to expedite an electric bus project for divisional headquarters. Together, they point to a larger plan to make it easier and cheaper for women to get around every day across the province.

How women in KP should prepare

•Make sure your CNIC, student ID, or proof of employment is updated and ready.

•The application will be announced through official KP government channels.

•Beware of agents or middlemen who say they can guarantee you a bike. There is no formal process yet.

•Check with your local Tehsil office once eligibility details are announced.

    Conclusion

The KP EV bike scheme can make a real difference to the day-to-day lives of female students and working women across the province, but it all depends on how transparently the government implements it. In the meantime, your best bet is to watch for official news.
