President Zardari Calls for Boost in Pak-China Strategic Trust and Deeper CPEC 2.0 Ties

    What Happened This Week

Pakistan and China go back a long way, and that friendship was back in the headlines this week. President Asif Ali Zardari sat down with Dr Syed Ali Asad Gilani, the man set to take over as Pakistan’s ambassador in Beijing, and told him plainly that ties with China are still the single most important part of our foreign policy. For most people reading this over their morning chai, it’s not just diplomatic language. It eventually shows up in jobs, prices and trade.

The President’s Message, In Plain Words

At Aiwan-e-Sadr, Zardari didn’t just talk about friendship for the sake of it. He said the goodwill between the two countries needs to actually turn into results, more visits at the top level, more contact between ordinary citizens on both sides, and real economic follow-through. He also spoke well of the shift toward Business-to-Business cooperation under CPEC 2.0, which basically means moving past the giant infrastructure projects of the first phase and letting private companies, traders and smaller exporters get a seat at the table too.

Why This Should Matter to You

The earlier phase of CPEC gave us motorways, power plants and Gwadar port. This next stage looks a bit different. It leans toward:

    • Better farming methods for growers in Punjab and Sindh
    • AI and tech training aimed at fresh graduates
    • Skill-building programs to tackle youth unemployment
    • Closer industrial tie-ups between Pakistani and Chinese firms

None of this is abstract. It’s the kind of stuff that could put a mobile-savvy graduate into a job faster, especially with government schemes like e-Rozgaar already trying to get young people online and earning.

    What’s Coming Next

Zardari also mentioned he’s looking forward to President Xi Jinping visiting Pakistan next year for the SCO Summit. If that trip goes ahead, don’t be surprised if it brings a fresh round of trade and investment announcements along with it.

A Quick Checklist Before You Move On

    • Small business owners, keep an eye out for new B2B trade openings
    • Students, watch for scholarship or exchange programs with Chinese universities
    • Job seekers in tech or agriculture, track CPEC-linked training rollouts
    • Everyone else, follow updates through the Board of Investment Pakistan

    Bottom Line

This isn’t just another diplomatic meeting that fades by tomorrow. If CPEC 2.0 plays out the way it’s being described, there could be real openings ahead in trade, tech and jobs, so it’s worth staying a little more plugged in than usual.
