The United Kingdom government has made significant changes to its Skilled Worker Visa Rules and has imposed tight requirements for partners and children to be admitted to visa holders. The regulatory changes which are detailed in Appendix Skilled Worker are for both overseas and in-country applicants. The structural realignments have direct consequences on thousands of Pakistanis who are hoping to get settled in the UK with their families, as health professionals, corporate executives, technical experts etc.
Dependency Restrictions and Cut-Off Dates
The new immigration system has strict restrictions on sponsoring family members for each category of position. Those who are new to the field of work and enter as a care worker or as a medium level worker are usually not allowed to bring their family dependents at all. Sponsors of family members may only do so if they have worked continuously in these designated occupations since March 11, 2024, and July 22, 2025, respectively.
Mandatory Maintenance Funds and Surcharges
The dependent visa can only be granted if applicants can demonstrate financial independence by having a certain amount of financial reserves for at least 28 days.
Spousal Coverage: The applicant should provide a minimum of £285 (approx Rs. 2000) for his spouse. 75% (222,500) deposited money in a verified bank account.
Child Allocation: The sponsors have to demonstrate £315 (Rs. 116,600) for the initial child and £200 (Rs. 74,000) for each additional child.
Primary Worker: These amounts are in addition to the £1,270 maintenance pool that is required for the primary employee.
In addition to savings, every family member will have to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge of £1,035 per year, and a separate processing fee for each member of £819. This means a three-year spousal visa requires a hefty initial fee of £3,924 (close to Rs. 15,900) to process. That cost is a significant one for families, at 1.45 million (before adding any relocation costs).
