Pakistan is preparing to officially respond to India recent announcement of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. According to reliable sources within the Indus Water Commission, all necessary legal and constitutional consultations have been completed.
Officials say that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Law have jointly finalized the groundwork. A formal diplomatic notice is expected to be sent to India in the coming days.
This notice will seek a clear explanation from India for its sudden and one sided move to suspend the treaty. Pakistan sees this as a serious breach of international obligations.
Sources also revealed that Pakistan is considering taking the matter to international forums to raise a strong protest. The purpose is to highlight what it views as India’s “water aggression” and to strengthen Pakistan legal and moral stance on the issue.
A senior official shared that, “This step is meant to reinforce Pakistan’s position with solid legal and ethical arguments and to present India’s actions clearly before the global community.”
Authorities within the Indus Commission believe that Pakistan holds strong legal ground and are hopeful that global pressure will push India to reverse its decision.
It is important to note that India made this announcement following the controversial Pahalgam incident which Pakistan believes was a false flag operation. Soon after India suspended the treaty and even ordered Pakistani citizens to leave the country within 48 hours.
