This morning, April 25, 2026, felt like a breath of fresh air to the inhabitants of Mian Channu and their neighborhoods not because of the weather but because of the power grid. The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has switched on the new MEPCO Khokhar Wala Feeder officially. This action is timely because the summer heat is already starting to build up, and the already strained infrastructure is already under a lot of strain due to overloading and exasperating voltage drops.
To the local households and other small business owners, this is not only a technical tweet of the day, but a significant win to their day to day lives. Month after month, unstable power supply has not only been a significant inconvenience, but also a costly affair, as costly household appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and water pumps have broken down or burned out. Having the MEPCO Khokhar Wala Feeder fully operational, the days of flickering lights and groaning motors are hopefully behind us.
Why Was the New Feeder Necessary?
The Khokhar Wala area experienced a rapid population growth and commercialization in the last couple of years. But the electrical system could not keep up. The feeder that was in service was well past its capacity resulting in what engineers refer to as Line Losses and severe Load Imbalance.
The consumers that are at the tail end of the line are the worst hit according to technical experts at Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO). By the time the electric power reaches their houses, the voltage has reduced to such an extent that power-consuming appliances just refuse to start. This is addressed by the new feeder, which distributes the load, so that all houses have a steady and constant flow of power, without regard to their distance to the grid station.
Voltage Stability: Saving Your Appliances and Your Wallet
The shortest advantage of the MEPCO Khokhar Wala Feeder is that it will protect the electronic equipment. Vibrations are the (not so audible) killers of contemporary electronics. Stable voltage means:
Less Tripping: No longer any abrupt cutting off of AC compressors at the height of the afternoon heat.
Optimal Performance: Water pumps will fill tanks in less time and cooling systems will achieve the desired temperatures more easily.
Reduce Electricity Bills: It may sound unbelievable that in cases, where appliances are operated at low or variable voltage, the appliance tends to attract more current, and warmed up, which may increase the unit consumption. Power is efficient in case of stable power.
The project is under the larger national policy of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) of modernizing the national distribution network and also lowering the “circular debt” due to technical inefficiencies.
A Shared Responsibility: Maintaining the Grid
Although the government and MEPCO have contributed their bit by putting the new feeder in place, it is up to the community to determine how long this relief will last. The residents are encouraged not to use illegal connection or Kunda culture as this is the main cause of unexpected load shedding in the transformers to ensure that the MEPCO Khokhar Wala Feeder operates smoothly.
In case you continue to have localized problems in your respective street or mohalla, MEPCO would like you to report the same to them at their helpline number of 118 or through PIDC (Power Information Technology Company) portal to get a quick resolution.
