Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is on a three-day official visit to Kyrgyz Republic in a significant diplomatic development, which will strengthen Pakistan’s strategic position in the Central Asian trade framework.
The Prime Minister was welcomed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev at the Manas International Airport on his arrival today 31 August 2026. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar are in the prime minister delegation.
Assuming Pakistan’s Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State
High-level meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State and the accompanying SCO Plus Summit are the main focus of the prime minister’s programme.
The formal passing of Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State to Pakistan for the next term (2026-2027) will be the highlight of the structure of this summit. This operational takeover puts Islamabad at the forefront of the region’s economic development, multilateral security plans, and planning for digital connectivity in the upcoming year and beyond.
The Prime Minister will be present on the first day of his official engagements today at the opening ceremony of the historic World Nomad Games in Bishkek. He will also use the sideline of the SCO meetings to have important bilateral discussions with the participating world leaders, including a high priority meeting with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is attending the summits, in an energy pipeline issue.

Revamping Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Bilateral Strategic Cooperation
The final stop of the trip will be Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov for extensive bilateral talks. The two state executives will discuss in detail the entire range of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and will try to replace the traditional trade methods with modern ones based on electronic trade regulations.
The inter-governmental dialogue will conclude joint implementation plans in a number of key areas such as:
Trade and Sovereign Investment: Simplify customs process to reduce shipping delays and enhance multi-lateral market access.
CASA-1000 Energy Corridor: For the quicker development of CASA-1000 clean energy power grid infrastructure for direct supply of surplus electricity from Central Asia to Pakistan.
Education and Student Security: Formalizing the operation of strict security procedures at thousands of Pakistani students’ dorms in Kyrgyz universities and automated residency checks for students.
