The education boards of Punjab announced that in 2026, the examination charges would go up by a tremendous margin and that it will be quite unaffordable to students and parents. The board stated that the rise was necessary to meet a dire budget shortfall but opponents have argued that students are being overcharged to upgrade administrations and security.

How Much Have the Fees Increased?

Private candidates appearing in FA and FSc annual exams will now pay Rs. 7,730, while regular students will pay Rs. 7,570. This includes several new charges and taxes:

    Fee TypeAmount (Rs.)
    Admission Fee1,000
    Registration Fee1,000
    Processing Fee1,000
    Certificate Fee1,000
    Miscellaneous Fee900
    CCTV Fee30
    Development Charges350

Differences Between Private and Regular Students

Intermediate exam admission fees are now:

    Student TypeAmount (Rs.)
    Regular Arts Students1,700
    Regular Science Students1,740
    Private Arts Students1,800
    Private Science Students1,900

These increases mean families have to budget significantly more for board exams than in previous years.

    Controversy and Backlash

The All Pakistan Private Schools Associations have opposed the increase claiming that already in most exam halls, there are CCTV cameras and students should not be charged. They also criticized the Rs. 900 miscellaneous fee as unjustified and called the certificate and processing fee increases excessive.

Officials estimate that Punjab boards could collect up to Rs. 15 billion through these revised fees in 2026.
