The integration of artificial intelligence and high-definition automated surveillance cameras across Pakistan has revolutionized traffic law enforcement. Electronic Ticketing Systems (ETS) are now in effect, automatically recording traffic violations, managed by agencies such as the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), Islamabad Traffic Police and the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP). Many drivers have no idea that a camera has pointed at them for an excessive speeding rate, lane violation or red light running. The fines are added to the centralized databases silently and if you don’t do a check online, your car may be impounded on the spot when you get stopped at a police check-point.
The Hidden Threat of Unpaid E-Challans and Asset Seizure
Under the current automated ticketing framework, traffic violations are linked directly to the vehicle registration data held by the Excise Department.
The Communication Gap: If your active mobile number or physical mailing address is not updated in the excise records, you will never receive the automated SMS notification regarding your fine.
Administrative Bottlenecks: Unpaid electronic penalties completely freeze your vehicle data. You will face immediate blocks when attempting to pay annual token taxes or transferring vehicle ownership during a sale.
On-the-Spot Impoundment: Traffic patrolling officers are equipped with digital, handheld scanning devices. If they scan your license plate at a routine nake (checkpoint) and discover multiple outstanding violations, they have the statutory authority to seize your vehicle immediately.
Step-by-Step Guide to Verifying Traffic Fines via CNIC and Plate Number
To protect your vehicle from legal penalties, you can proactively audit your traffic profile through official provincial and federal management portals using a smartphone or computer.
1. Navigating Regional Verification Portals
The digital inquiry shall be made through PSCA E-Challan System for vehicles registered or driven in Punjab (including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad).
Use a web browser to go to the official site.
Your complete vehicle registration number as it appears on your car’s license plate (LEB-19-1234) should be entered into the first field.
The second field is for the CNIC number of the registered owner of the vehicle, but with no hyphens. The system will accept a unique vehicle chassis number, if the CNIC is not available.
Complete the CAPTCHA and click the “Search” button.
2. Reading the Violation Dashboard
When the search is done, the system will show your real-time data. If penalties are issued, the screen displays the exact date, time, photograph of the violation, specific traffic rule violated, and the exact amount of the traffic fine.
How to Digitally Settle Your Outstanding E-Challans
When a challan check is done online and you find that there are any pending dues, you need to pay them right away to prevent them from staying on your record.
Get the PSID: On the website, choose the unpaid ticket to obtain a unique 18 digit Payment System Identifier (PSID) number.
Mobile and Internet Banking: Access any authorized commercial banking applications, go to ‘Government Payments,’ enter the PSID and sign it.
Mobile Wallets: You can use popular digital wallets such as EasyPaisa or JazzCash. Simply search for “Traffic Challan” or “PSCA”, paste the PSID, and pay instantly.
Physical Bank Visits: Alternatively, download and print the physical paper slip to pay over-the-counter at any branch of the Bank of Punjab (BOP) or National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
