The wait is over to the thousands of students whose momentum in exams was disrupted. To make the academic calendar as close as possible to the original one, the board has summarized the rescheduled papers in one day. This is after a short absence in 64 particular centers in the city.
May 2 Set for Urdu and Geography Papers
The rescheduled examinations will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2026 according to the notification of BISE Rawalpindi. The time is separated into two shifts:
Morning Shift: Urdu (Compulsory) paper will be held in the morning of the day.
Evening Shift: The Geography of Pakistan paper will be on the second shift on the same date.
Board spokesperson Arslan Cheema explained that this new schedule is only applicable to those candidates, who were initially to be present at the 64 centers in the city of Rawalpindi that had been shut down on April 10. The students living in suburbs and other districts of the board in which the board has jurisdiction like Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal that already took their examinations according to the old schedule are not under the influence.
Security Context: The Iran-US Peace Talks
The initial postponement was a precautionary measure directed by the district administration. Rawalpindi and Islamabad were placed under a security blanket to facilitate the historic Iran-United States peace talks. As high-ranking foreign officials visited the twin cities, and local holidays were declared, the board decided to delay the exams to avoid any logistical problems of students and staff given the road blockages and increased security.
Important Instructions for Matric Candidates
It is recommended that students should retain their original roll number slips. The board has made it very clear that:
Examination Centers: There will be no change in the venue. Students will have to report to the same centers as earlier.
Timings: Standard morning and evening shift timings will apply.
Verification: Candidates can verify the notification and any individual updates by visiting the BISE Rawalpindi Official Website.
Punjab’s 2026 Student Support Initiatives
In the meantime as the students await their re-exam, the Punjab government has also initiated some historic initiatives this week, to decrease the load on the young generation. Recently, the Honhaar Scholarship Programme was approved by the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and will benefit more than 62,000 students. Moreover, a new campus electric bus centre among students and a collaboration with Google to offer free certification to 100,000 students are now being implemented throughout the province to bring about modernization in the learning process.
