The Punjab government has announced that the province’s first modern film city will be officially inaugurated on December 15, 2026. The milestone declaration came during the maiden meeting of the newly formed Punjab Film Authority chaired by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb aiming to restore Lahore as the country’s ultimate cinematic hub.
In a landmark move for the local entertainment industry Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the drafting of Pakistan’s first-ever royalty law for artists to protect intellectual property. The upcoming media production hub will host a film and music school, a film trading house, a post-production facility and a studio complex equipped with advanced soundstages. Furthermore, plans are underway to build the country’s largest convention center within the zone.
To incentivize production quality, the authority is finalizing a comprehensive film rebate framework alongside a single-window online location platform for directors. A proposed operating budget of Rs. A total of 589 million has been assigned to be formally reviewed by the finance committee. Further, the government also approved the revival of the old cinema halls with the installation of solar power systems and the implementation of digital ticketing systems. The campaign also seeks to make Punjab a top tourist destination globally for screen tourism over the next five years.
