Jammu Martyrs’ Day is today Nov.6, 2026 and is being solemnly observed by Kashmiris across the globe as well as both sides of the Line of Control (LoC). It is a day of great significance as it is observed each year to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifices of the previous generations and reiterate the collective resolve of the public to realize the United Nations recognized right of Kashmiri people to self-determination.
The Grim History of the 1947 Massacre
The historical value of this occasion goes back to November 6, 1947 when hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims were mercilessly massacred throughout the Jammu region. The Dogra army of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian army and extremist Hindutva groups systematically unleashed the catastrophic violence. Tragically, these defenseless victims were targeted while actively migrating toward Pakistan during the highly volatile first week of November.
Hurriyat Leadership Condemns Genocide and Demands Justice
In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) socio-political organizations and prominent Hurriyat leaders have paid rich tributes to the victims and termed the violence of 1947 as one of the darkest chapters in Kashmir’s history. Official statements issued by the leaders of Srinagar strongly condemned the historic massacre as a pre-planned conspiracy which was aimed at forcing the Muslims of Jammu to become minority through systematic ethnic cleansing. The Kashmiri leadership has strongly appealed to the international community to pay attention to the current human rights violations and targeted killings by the occupation forces in IIOJK.
