In a major move to provide financial breathing room to low- and middle-income families facing rising inflation, the government has officially expanded the scope of its nationwide subsidy program. Under the newly revised PM Fuel Relief Scheme, owners of small-engine cars, older motorcycles, and rickshaws are now eligible to receive heavy monthly subsidies on petrol purchases to curb their rising commuting costs.
Rs. 3,000 Monthly Subsidy for 800cc Cars
The most notable addition to the program is the inclusion of small cars. Under the updated framework, citizens who own vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 800cc can now claim a monthly relief package worth Rs. 3,000.
This financial cushion is delivered through a digital fuel token system. Eligible car owners will receive one token every 10 days, amounting to three tokens per month. Each token grants a flat Rs. 100-per-litre discount on a 10-litre purchase, translating to Rs. 1,000 in direct savings per token. Over the course of a month, the system covers a total of 30 litres of petrol, saving drivers Rs. 3,000.
Revised Relief Package for Two and Three-Wheelers
Recognizing the needs of daily wage earners and commuters, the government has also streamlined the distribution system for motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, and Qingqi rickshaws.
For users requiring smaller volumes of fuel specifically under 5 litres the government will issue one token every week. Each weekly token offers a Rs. 100-per-litre discount, ensuring a savings of Rs. 500 per fuel up. By utilizing all four weekly tokens, eligible two- and three-wheeler riders will accumulate a total monthly discount of Rs. 2,000.
Extension to Older Vehicles and Free Registration
To maximize the demographic reach of the subsidy, the government has extended eligibility to older vehicles that are frequently used by lower-income households. Any motorcycle, rickshaw, or Qingqi registered on or after January 1, 2006, is now fully eligible to join the program.
To make the onboarding process completely frictionless, the government has removed all financial barriers to sign up. All SMS registration charges have been permanently waived. Applicants can easily enroll their vehicles by sending their required details to the dedicated short code 9771 free of cost.
Universal Nationwide Implementation
This petrol subsidy is a unified national initiative designed to support citizens across all regional jurisdictions. The PM Fuel Relief Scheme is being actively rolled out across all provinces, as well as throughout Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), ensuring that even remote communities have immediate access to subsidized fuel.
