Pakistan Remittances Cross $7.3 Billion in Two Months of FY27: What This Means for Families Back Home

Each month millions of Pakistani families rely on one thing: money wired home by a father, brother or son working abroad. That wait just got a bit easier. The remittances received by the country stood at $7.3 billion during July and August of FY27, up by 14.7 percent over the same period last year, the State Bank of Pakistan said. This is not some number on a government chart. It impacts grocery bills, school fees, and the exchange rate that shopkeepers keep an eye on every day.

    Why remittances are increasing

August alone had $3.656 billion, a bit more than the $3.630 billion in July. Saudi Arabia and UAE remained the largest sources followed by the UK, EU and US. There’s a disturbing reason for the jump that’s more quiet. Pakistani investors in the Gulf are said to be repatriating savings and liquid assets to Pakistan rather than run the risk of keeping them abroad, rattled by continuing regional war jitters.

What this means to local families

•Inflows are helping stabilize the rupee against the dollar.

•Banks and exchange companies witness an increase in activity that can reduce queues at counters.

•Govt reserves provide a cushion for import payments, debt servicing.

•Households may get a slightly better rupee conversion rate for remittances.

How to Remit Money Wisely to Overseas Pakistanis

A lot of migrant workers still use manual transfers or informal hawala networks which are riskier and often illegal. A better way:

•For faster and documented transfers, please use official banking channels or Roshan Digital Account.

•Before sending large amounts, compare rates between licensed exchange companies.

•Be wary of unregistered agents promising “better rates” as they are a risk of fraud.

•Keep transaction receipts for tax & remittance proof.

•Encourage family back home to use mobile banking apps to access funds faster.

A Word on the Larger Picture

The government has set the $44 billion remittance target for FY27, up from a record $41.6 billion last year. This provides some breathing space for Pakistan’s external account. But experts warn that war-induced transfers are not a permanent trend and normal patterns could resume once tensions in the Gulf ease.

    Conclusion

Remittances are on the rise, which is good news for now, as it eases pressure on reserves and helps families cope with inflation, but they are still tied to global uncertainty, not to steady economic growth. For overseas Pakistanis, the best way to protect their hard-earned money and to support their loved ones back home is still to use safe, official channels.
