The Elementary and Secondary Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has officially announced the annual holiday timeline for all public and private schools and colleges. In response to rising temperatures and overlapping religious holidays, the provincial government adjusted the traditional academic calendar. This strategic decision aims to protect students and teachers from extreme weather conditions while optimizing the holiday break. If you want to know how this affects your district, here is the complete breakdown of the summer vacations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Advanced Vacation Commencement for Plain Areas

According to the official announcement by the education department, educational institutions situated in the plain and hot districts of the province will remain closed from May 22, 2026, to August 31, 2026. Initially, these holidays were scheduled to begin slightly later. However, the alignment of Eid ul Azha dates prompted the authorities to move the date forward to May 22.

Had the schools followed the older schedule, institutions would have reopened for just two days on May 25 and May 26, right before the countrywide Eid ul Azha holidays began on May 27. To prevent low student attendance and eliminate unnecessary travel stress for families, the government logically absorbed those two transitional days into the early summer break.

To read official administrative updates and check upcoming academic notifications, you can visit the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department.

Distinct Academic Schedule for Cold Mountainous Regions

Education officials have clarified that the previously designated schedule for the upper, mountainous, and colder regions of the province remains entirely unchanged. Because these high-altitude zones do not experience oppressive summer heat, their academic calendars are managed differently to prevent learning gaps.

According to the issued notification, the summer break in the coldest mountainous districts (such as upper parts of Swat, Chitral, and the Galyat region) will last for exactly one month, observed from July 1, 2026, to July 31, 2026. All schools in these colder regions will resume normal classes on August 1, 2026.

Convergence of Eid Holidays and School Submissions

With Eid ul Azha falling between May 27 and May 31, students in the plain areas will automatically transition from their initial summer break days straight into the festive weekend. Conversely, schools in the colder hilly areas will close briefly for the designated national Eid holidays before continuing regular classes up until their formal July break. Private school associations across the province have been strictly ordered to comply with this government-issued timeline.
