The Pakistan e-passport launch is a revolutionary step in Pakistan’s journey towards modernization of the national passport and the ground-breaking announcement has been made by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. The primary travel document of Pakistan, the highly secured passport design has finally started its issuance on October 23, 2026 which enables Pakistan to meet the current international standards for travel documents.
The freshly rolled-out e-passport incorporates an advanced electronic chip alongside integrated Near Field Communication (NFC) protocols. According to regulatory authorities these enhancements significantly boost the physical and digital protection of a traveler’s personal and biometric data. Further, the new booklets incorporate accurate laser engraving methods and a new structural design with special attention to security aspects to make the credential virtually impossible to duplicate or forge.
Most importantly, the digitized infrastructure simplifies international immigration processes allowing for instant identity verification at key border crossing locations. The chip-enabled features natively support automated clearances at automated airport e-gates enabling eligible Pakistani travelers to bypass lengthy traditional processing queues and minimize overall transit time. In addition, the new platform is based on cutting-edge data encryption technologies that closely follow world standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is a strategic deployment which directly responds to the concerns and issues over international identity theft and at the same time provides a sound globally verified verification architecture to the Pakistani travelers who travel abroad.
