Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially achieved a landmark milestone after receiving formal regulatory clearance to operate the advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Pakistan for the first time. The final operating permission was granted following successful structural and safety inspections completed by senior national aviation officials.
A high-level inspection delegation led by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General Nader Shafi Dar conducted the comprehensive technical evaluation of the wide-body aircraft at Oslo Airport. Following this initial sign-off a second Boeing 787 is scheduled for inspection at Oslo Airport on Monday with a third twin-engine jet slated for review at London Airport on November 20. This major development follows a recent long-haul commercial agreement signed between PIA and the Norse Atlantic aviation group to lease two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to aggressively expand long-distance route capacities.
The national flag carrier will launch its inaugural Boeing 787 commercial operation on October 31, 2026. The premiere flight designated as PK-786 will depart from London and is scheduled to touch down at Islamabad International Airport with its first batch of passengers on November 1. Coinciding with this operational launch PIA will introduce a brand-new uniform design for its cabin crew and flight staff. This fleet modernization program coupled with ongoing cabin upgrades for the existing Boeing 777 aircraft aims to significantly improve international passenger satisfaction and restore network competitiveness.
